FAQ

What can I expect at my first counselling session?

First counselling sessions typically include information about the therapy process (including confidentiality and consent). This is followed by a meaningful discussion about the issues that brought you to counselling. At the end of the first session your goals for counselling will likely be identified and you should have had the opportunity to ask questions and share information that help you get comfortable.

How long does each session last?

Standard counselling sessions are 50-minutes in length. The last 10-minutes of the session are typically scheduled for the psychologist to complete session notes.
Prolonged exposure therapy sessions typically take 1.5-hours (75-minute session length, 15-min for session notes).

How many counselling sessions do I need?

Due to the unique needs of each client the number of sessions will vary and can be discussed based on your specific treatment goals.

How often do I need to attend?

Many clients find that attending regular counselling sessions weekly or every other week for an initial period is most helpful.
Appointment frequency may be based on the severity of the issues you are experiencing and should be evaluated collaboratively with your counsellor on an ongoing basis.

What is your cancellation policy?

KM Counselling requires 24-hour notice for any cancellations. Cancellations or no-shows within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time may be subject to a charge of 50% of service fee.

What can I expect to gain from counselling?

Speaking with a psychologist is different from talking to a friend or family member. A qualified psychologist is uniquely able to provide different perspectives and the right tools specifically tailored to your needs.
By working with the right psychologist, you can expect to develop the clarity required to properly identify, address, and even solve problems as they arise. You can expect this experience to be authentic, evidence-based, and collaborative.
